Good News from Hangzhou
Over the weekend of May 13/14, the Local Organizing Committee
(LOC) met to enlarge and expand the plans for the 28th ISPA Colloquium. The
following agenda items were discussed which will give you a little idea of what
is in store for you.
First we heard from Lu Yao (Celia) from the China Hangzhou Travel Agency. A
total of 86 people have signed up for pre and post
colloquium tours. It is not too late to send your reservation in by email (daiqin@mail.hz.zj.cn)
and then direct your payment to a bank account number. All of the tours are
great but the Southwest tour is very interesting. The agency will provide van
service from various bus terminals to the hotel. In fact, we hope to meet each
and every one of you at the airport and direct you to the bank to change money
and get you on your way to the hotel. They will also have a table at the colloquium
for tour sign-ups.
Li Wen from a company called Zhong Da Group is in charge of the colloquium packets
and carrying bag. It is important for you
to know that you will receive in your bag an umbrella and a Chinese fan. The
umbrella is not for rain but to keep you a little
cooler when walking in the sun. The Chinese fan is a must even though our hotel
is air conditioned. The bag you will receive is made of a typically Chinese
pattern without the ISPA logo. You will find many uses for that bag.
The program was reviewed adding some sessions to introduce you to several different
Chinese cultural musts such as TaiChi.
You can’t go away without a little knowledge of that age old form of exercise
and relaxation.
The keynote speakers are in place, day tours have been interspersed, the interaction
groups meet will daily for an hour (making lunch into two groups) and the Opening
Ceremony and Welcome Party will feature some talented children in dance and
musical performances.
So far we have 174 overseas participants. Students and Chinese Psychologists
will register this month. Government officials will be invited and full publicity
for the international colloquium is planned.
The next meeting of the LOC is at the end of the month. In less than 2 months
we will be welcoming you to the beautiful city of
Hangzhou. July is hot (this is where your gift umbrella will come in handy).
All but the Farewell Dinner will be right in the hotel except
for those of you who will explore the city from time to time. You will find
a map of the city in your hotel room AND we will have a table to give you information
and help you when you need it.
So now all you have to do is let us know how and where and when you will arrive
and we will be there with bells on. Look for our volunteers holding up the big
sign that says ISPA. We look forward to seeing you at the China ISPA Colloquium.
