What’s New for the Colloquium in China
First of all, it is important to let you know that no bird flu
patient has been found in Hangzhou up to this point. The local government has
already carried out a series of preventive strategies, including stopping the
importation of chickens, ducks etc. from outside.
Second, more and more Chinese school psychologists are showing interest in attending
the colloquium. Some professors in colleges have asked whether their abstracts
submitted for the colloquium will be officially published.
Third, on March 24th, Hongfei, with several colleagues, will visit colleagues,
schools, and agencies in Hong Kong in order to further promote the colloquium.
Fourth, there are several schools in Hangzhou that have promised to assist us
with multi-function equipment for presentations, computers for free access to
the internet, and with a children's performance during the opening ceremony.
With our best wishes, we look forward to meeting you.

CHINA IN JULY by Roger Chauvette Colloquium Coordinator
Now that winter is finally drawing to a close and spring is
just around the corner, it is time to give serious consideration to attending
the 28th International School Psychology Colloquium on July 15-20, 2006 in Hangzhou,
China. It is not too early to begin planning . complete and send in the registration
form, apply for your visa (if necessary), make airline reservations and come
join us for a wonderful colloquium in Hangzhou. Remember that though flights
to China may be somewhat expensive, once there all else is very reasonable.
Colloquium planning is proceeding very well. Registrations are already being
received, and the co-chairs of the colloquium, Hongwu Zhou and Hongfei Yang,
are looking forward to welcoming you to China. They have been working very hard
to make this colloquium a memorable experience for all participants. The theme
of this year’s colloquium, "Mental Health and Education: Students,
Teachers, and Parents", is of great relevance to the practice of school
psychology today. Quality pre-colloquium workshops presenters and keynote speakers
have accepted the invitation to present at the colloquium and are certain to
deliver dynamic and interesting sessions that will be of interest to all. In
addition, symposia, paper presentations and
posters will explore a variety of areas related to the colloquium theme. Free,
high quality workshops will also be incorporated into the scientific program.
For more information regarding the program, please log on to the ISPA website
at <www. Ispaweb.org>.
In addition to the scientific program, the organizers have arranged for exceptional
pre- and post- colloquium tours for those who wish to extend their stay in China
and explore its history, culture and natural beauty. Come to China and visit
such places as: The Great Wall, The Forbidden City, Xi’an’s Terra-Cotta
Warriors, the Peking Zoo (home of the famous giant pandas) and many others.
Explore the cities of Hangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, Guilin, and others. One-half
day and full-day tours have also been arranged for during the colloquium. This
will be the first time an ISPA Colloquium will be hosted in the Far East and
you are encouraged to attend.
Hangzhou, the colloquium venue, is the capital of Zhejiang Province and is frequently
referred to as "Paradise on Earth." It is one of China’s most
important tourist sites and noted for the ’West Lake’, a place of
beautiful scenery and natural beauty. Close to the colloquium site and within
easy walking distance are a number of national museums, teahouses, temples,
and mysterious caverns. The Zhejiang Hotel, the site of the colloquium, is a
four star hotel which provides excellent accommodations at a reasonable cost.
It is air-conditioned and is connected to the conference center.
