THE ISPA AWARD 2006

ANDERS POULSEN

ANDERS POULSEN is presented the ISPA Honorary Lifetime Membership Award in recognition of his service to ISPA

The International School Psychological Association is pleased and honored to recognize Anders Poulsen with its Lifetime Membership Award. Anders has energetically and selflessly devoted more than 30 years to the International School Psychological Association, serving as its co-founder, first president, first executive director, and continuous newsletter editor. Since 1982, he has served as the Association’s abiding leader, establishing the Association’s foundation and impacting on every important feature of the Association. His influence extends to all continents and his friendships number in the thousands. As an articulate spokesperson for the International School Psychological Association and school psychology, Anders has been instrumental in the emergence of school psychology in many countries and its development in all countries. His most recent contribution has been the fascinating series of articles on the early history of ISPA that were published in recent editions of World Go Round.
His rich history as a leader in the resistance movement during World War II, teacher, school psychologist, psychological consultant, advisor to UNESCO, leader in the Danish School Psychological Association, and business manager of the Danish Psychological Publishing Company attests to the wide range of his important contributions both personally and professionally. His pioneering and long-standing work in remote areas of Thailand, captured in part in his publication Childbirth, Spirits and the Khwan: Development and Culture, Observed Over 40 Years in a North- Eastern Thai Village, honors its people and traditions. His receipt of an honorary doctorate from Sri Nankarinwirote University in Bangkok signifies the esteem in which he is held together with the importance of his contributions there and elsewhere.
His laudable personal qualities are apparent to all who have the pleasure of knowing him: principled, conscientious, loyal, kind, trustworthy, dedicated, hard working, selfless, bright, and insightful - an exemplary professional, dedicated husband and father, and friend to all who have the pleasure of knowing him. Thus, with great pleasure and honor, we present the Lifetime Membership Award to Anders Poulsen this 19th of July, 2006.
