The International School Psychology Association takes great
pleasure in presenting its 2006 Award for Distinguished Services to Nevin Dölek,
who has been an active member of ISPA for nearly twenty years.
In her pioneering work in Turkey, her home country, she was instrumental in
setting up counseling services for school-aged children and developing the field
of school psychology. Always open to new ideas and sensitive to the needs of
others , she has used the knowledge she acquired over these years to train many
in professions caring for children in need.
She brought her unique abilities to ISPA's service in 1987, and for the past
twenty years has been an active participant at Colloquia, offering and integrating
ideas, as befits her genuine standing as a leader. Naturally, she was the driving
force behind the highly successful Colloquium held in Istanbul in 1992, spearheading
her team of co-workers.
Her determination to contend with challenges and make things work made her the
ideal candidate for the position of ISPA's Colloquium Coordinator. While serving
in this capacity from 1997 to 2004, she functioned as counselor, friend, and
advisor to the local organizing committees, helping them to create the unique
atmosphere of our colloquia. During her tenure, she appreciably changed the
role of colloquium coordinator by assuming her share of responsibility for the
functioning of the Executive Committee, consistently and unequivocally expressing
her standpoint.
It was Nevin who initiated the establishment of ISPA's International Crisis
Response Network, which is now a flourishing endeavor inspiring school psychologists
throughout the world. Her organizing talents and her professional contacts have
enabled ISPA to send skilled professionals to aid victims of natural disasters
to different countries, as needed. At several ISPA colloquia, Nevin has lectured
and conducted workshops on crisis intervention techniques.
It is my sincere pleasure to present this Award to Nevin Dölek on behalf
of ISPA, in appreciation for her unswerving commitment and admirable contribution
to the Association over the past two decades.
